HANNA

About a young girl named, appropriately enough, Hanna (played by Saoirse Ronan, fresh off her Oscar nom for Atonement) who doesn’t know who she really is, but has been turned into a rootin’, tootin’ fightin’ machine by her father (Eric Bana) in order to take down a corrupt intelligence officer (Cate Blanchett). In the pitch room, this would be described as The Bourne Identity, but with Jason Bourne as a little girl. The story (screenplay by Seth Lochhead and David Farr) is as silly as Blanchett’s Southern accent, but a bit more fun (what is it about Southern accents in movies that they come across as caricatures rather than real). Visually, it’s quite interesting and the director Joe Wright really keeps the story going over the speed limit; but in the end, this is little more than a perfectly satisfactory time waster.
